I love Gavin to death, but I just can't listen to punk rock. Sorry. We are 100% on with most things, but music, not close. When he said Stevie Ray Vaughan sucks LOL..... I just had to laugh at that..
Yes. I agree. I was into punk during the 80s but am a metal head for the most part. As far as Britain is concerned, the waves you speak of is right. Stranglers/clash etc were considered first wave. The exploited/gbh/peter and the test tube babies were considered second wave iirc. Did the Sex Pistols signal the beginning of the second wave, or where they part of it? I’m going from sheer memory here, but this is what my punk friends say back home. I’m not too sure about the US scene. I only ever listened to DK (and still do, they’re amazing). He once called his favorite Scottish soccer team the Celtics. It’s Celtic. He also called the eliminator girls from the zztop videos, the accelerator girls. Small mistakes, but stuff he “should know” by memory
Also - the Sex Pistols fucking SUCK. He romanticizes British culture but British culture and music fucking sucks. America and even Canada has always had a better punk and hardcore scene. Period. British rap sucks. They have a few outliers. The Stones and Led Zeppelin snuck through with good music, but 99% of British music is so bland. And it will NEVER get rainy and grey enough for them to be inspired to make decent music. Sorry. There's just NOTHING there.
Just wanted to confirm my suspicions. To be clear, you're talking about shit you weren't around for vs. a guy who was and speaks from his own experience because you read some shit on the internet.
Aww, calm down snowflake. Did your fee-fees get hurt, buddy?
Just because you're wrong doesn't mean that Gavin is right (did I ever claim that?). Frankly, I don't really care. All I'm pointing out is the obvious fact that you're basing this off shit you read on the internet but can't verify based on your own experience. At least Gavin was alive and active in his own punk scene, so naturally, his word is going to count more than yours, especially considering he made a living writing about this shit while you were still in elementary school pulling your peepee. All you're doing is parroting shit other people have said and saying Gavin is wrong because he's not repeating what you heard elsewhere online.
What makes you the arbiter of truth here? You're clearly just an arrogant millennial that thinks you know more than everyone because you did a "deep dive" on Wikipedia and YouTube. Fuck outta here, sheep.
Let's be real here: you're nerding out over a dead scene that predates you by at least a decade, talking about different people you've never met (some of whom Gavin actually has), and places you've never been, because you spent too much time reading/watching useless shit on the internet. What a fucking poser...
He is wrong about a lot of things, but he is quite a story-teller. I am sure he will read this tho, I hope we get to see his reaction in the show!

How anyone cares (including Gavin) about any of this is beyond me.
How old are you?
